The Singing Saw!

I love playing around with different and odd instruments.  When I saw people playing a regular wood saw on TV and getting musical sounds from it, I thought it was a trick!  And it was until I was this old that I found out it could actually be played.  I watched the incomparable, Sierra Ferrel play one and I had to try it.  I found an old saw of my fathers that had seen better days.  I ground off the teeth (safety first), repaired the handle as best I could, cleaned it up a bit, got a bow and began the agonizing process of getting some musical sounds from it.

I can get clean sounds pretty consistently but the big trick is getting proper, in-tune notes from it.  Practice makes perfect so, I'll continue to saw until one day you might hear it in one of my songs!
